ANTANANARIVO: attraction and weather
Antananarivo is the capital of Madagascar. It is located at the central part of the Island up to 1500m above the sea level. There are many places you can visit in the town such as the Queen's Palace, Ambohimanga Palace, the animated market of Analakely (in the Center) etc. You should visit the website of the tourism office to get further information.
The weather in October is very nice (temperature between 15°C-28°C during the day and about 13-18°C during the night and no rain). However, it is better to bring a light sweater because sometimes it is cool at night.
For the visit to Andasibe Park, it is recommended to bring also walking shoes and an anorak/rain coat.

Health
You are advised to check with your doctor what vaccines and medicines you need for visiting Madagascar.
Please notice that there is no risk of yellow fever in Madagascar but the Government of Madagascar requires proof of yellow fever vaccination if you are arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever.
Security
For security, we suggest that foreigners will not go out alone in the evenings in Antananarivo.
Transportation
There will be transportation for all registered GBIF attendees between hotels and meeting venues during the events. The bus will pick up every attendee at their respective hotels and go to the meeting or conference venues following a detailed schedule and itinerary. The same bus will be used to go back to the hotel at the end of each meeting. In order to use this service, all attendees must send the name of their hotel and to the local organizers by 25th September the latest.
